#Pune | Serious pondering on Freedom of Speech need of the hour: Satish Mahana, UP Assembly Speaker

Pune Bureau: Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana appealed everyone to seriously ponder on the issue of ‘Freedom of Expression and Speech’ regulation. He was speaking during the first session titled ‘Freedom of Speech – Where to draw the line’ on the first day of 12th edition of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS) – Indian Student Parliament) organised by MIT World Peace University, MIT School of Government (MIT-SOG) in Pune.

Rahul V. Karad, Executive President, MAEER, MIT World Peace University & Chief Initiator, MIT-SOG presided as the Chair of Session. Tusharkanti Behera, Odisha’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, E & IT (IC), Sports and Youth Services (IC); Adv Krishna Allavaru, Joint Secretary, All India Congress Committee (AICC) and National In-Charge Indian Youth; D. R. Karthikeyan, IPS (Retd), Former Director, CBI participated in the session as speakers. Students Aditi Pratap, Raj Tiwari, Nandini Ravi Shankar, Sudhanshu Dahake, Akshata Deshpande also expressed their thoughts during the session.

Tusharkanti Behera was awarded with the Aadarsh Yuva Vidhayak Sanman (Ideal Youth MLA Honour) and Indresh Upadhyay, renowned spiritual leader and founder of BhaktiPath was awarded ‘Yuva Adhyatmik Guru Sanman’ honour at the hands of Rahul V Karad.

 

Addressing the students, Mahana said, “Qualified and educated people should be active in politics. They should do good work in politics and set examples before the society. Our constitution has given us the right to Freedom of Speech and Expression. Along with this right, we should also give priority to national interest.”

Expressing his gratitude for the award and honour presented, Tusharkanti Behera said, “My work has been honoured today by this award. The constituent people also share this honour and award with me. Hence, I am dedicating this award to all citizens of my constituency.”

Allavaru said, “We all are striving to make Bharat as the greatest nation among all other nations. There should be no restriction or regulation on the right to Freedom of Speech and Expression. We must take care that exercising this right will not cause any harm to our national interests. Hence we should seriously ponder on this issue.”

 

Karthikeyan said, “Students and youth should focus on the issues like health, environment and social obligations.”

Upadhyay said, “Youth should remember four things in their day to day activities. Behaviour during your youth days, rights, wealth and most important rationality. Along with these four, students should also give spirituality its due importance in their lives.”

A resolution was passed in this session.
